Other auxiliary parts of wheelchair are designed to meet the needs of special patients, such as increasing the friction surface of the handle, installing arm rests on the armrest, or a wheelchair table that is convenient for patients to eat and write. Selection precautions For patients with high spinal cord injury (above neck 5), because the hands cannot move, it is necessary to choose a wheelchair with a high backrest and a chest strap. This wheelchair is driven by family members, and the patient cannot control the wheelchair by himself. Therefore, the wheelchair brake must be reliable and strong to prevent danger from sliding, slipping, etc. when no one is around. In addition, the armrests should be wide, soft, and able to fix the hands, equipped with anti-pressure ulcer pads, and the foot pedals should be long enough to prevent the feet from being bruised. Patients with cervical 6-thoracic 1 spinal cord injury can operate wheelchairs by themselves, and should be equipped with good quality and lighter wheelchairs when possible. When the hands are drooping, they should be on a vertical line with the axis of the big wheel, so that there is friction when driving, and half-finger gloves should be used to prevent the hands from being worn. The front wheel must be flexible, and the foot pedal must be long enough. In addition, the foot pedal should be able to be separated to both sides, so that it is more convenient to move to the side of the bed with the skateboard. If the patient is frail, elderly or overweight and it is difficult to drive the wheelchair with both hands, an electric wheelchair can also be provided.
